Why Soda stains are tricky

Tannin compounds are polyphenolic molecules that bond to fabric through hydrogen bridges and rapidly oxidize on contact with air.

How to prevent Soda stains

The dye in coloured sodas is the main staining agent. Lighter coloured clothing stains more visibly. Blotting immediately with cold water lifts most of the dye before it sets. Avoid rubbing — it spreads the dye across a larger area.
