Paint

- 2Add dish soap or rubbing alcohol and scrub with an old toothbrush while it's still wet

- 2Dab mineral spirits (white spirit) onto a cloth and press on the stain from the outside in
- 3Wash with dish soap and warm water to remove the solvent, then wash normally
✗ Do not: use water as your first step on oil-based paint — it does nothing and wastes time
Rust
- 1Apply a rust remover (like Whink) or pour lemon juice on the stain and add table salt
- 2Leave for 30 minutes (try sitting it in sunlight for the lemon method)
- 3Rinse well with cold water, then wash normally and air-dry
✗ Do not: use bleach — it reacts with rust and permanently locks the stain in
Wax
- 1Let the wax harden completely, then scrape it off with a plastic card or butter knife
- 2Place a paper bag or brown paper over the leftover wax and run a warm iron over it — the wax soaks into the paper
- 3Dab any remaining color stain with rubbing alcohol, then wash normally
✗ Do not: pour boiling water over it — the wax spreads into the fibers before it sets
